Larry comes from a musical family, as his father played the organ and was a Music Professor at McMurry College in Texas, teaching organ, music theory and directing the band. His mother majored in cello, and was the Choral Director at Edgewater High School in Orlando for many years. Larry’s wife, Flo, is a vocalist, and their daughter, Laurie Foote, majored in bass trombone, and is the Music Specialist at Quest Elementary School, in Viera. Their younger daughter, Lynnda Floyd, is a bassoon major, formerly served as the Bayside High School choral and orchestra director, and presently serves as the assistant to the Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Melbourne.

Larry studied with the late Dr. William Cramer at Florida State University, and briefly with the past principal tubist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Herbert Wekselblatt.

Larry toured Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England, Malaysia and Australia (including a concert at the Sydney Opera House), playing tuba with the Florida Worship Choir and Orchestra.

He is a founding member of the Sunshine Brass Quintet, the Central Florida Winds, the Space Coast Winds, and the First Baptist Church Orchestra at Melbourne. He has played with the Sunshine Brass Band out of Tampa, at two North American Brass Band Association international competitions, and has played with the Melbourne Municipal Band for the past 22 years.

Larry retired in 2004, after 46 years at Harris Corporation, in Mechanical Engineering.
