It was very apparent in the 90's that within several community band organizations there was a wide range of talent, and it was apparent that a group organized for “professional level” wind musicians did not exist, but might be needed. In 1999, during a rehearsal for Colonel Hal Gibson's Space Coast Winds, the subject of a "professional performing wind group" was introduced to several key players. In October of that year a "test" rehearsal took place. From that moment on, the Central Florida Winds became a reality! Central Florida Winds draws on talent from professional players, retired professional musicians, talented music teachers, and the elite, in the ranks of high-school and college students. The geographic footprint of Central Florida Winds and Chamber Winds (which began in the fall of 2001) includes all of Brevard County, North to Deland, South to Port St. Lucie, and West to Lakeland. We have enjoyed the talent of many soloists and conductors alike, including, Dr. Bobby Adams of Stetson University (conductor), James Bishop of Brevard Community College (conductor and alto saxophone soloist), Anita Juiliana (English Horn, Brevard Symphony Orchestra), Lyman Brodie (principal trumpet of the Orlando Philharmonic and the Dallas Wind Symphony), and Thomas Waid (tuba soloist of CFW and retired principal tuba player of The Army Band.)
