Conductor Richard Sabino received his musical training in piano and trumpet beginning at age 6 in Utica, New York. Moving to Florida in the early 60’s he continued with various trumpet teachers including Don Owen at University of South Florida, Howard Snell of the London Symphony Orchestra and Tom Wolwender of the Cleveland Orchestra. His conducting experience began in high school and with a little insight into conducting from Andre Previn in 1968 he continued to perform and conduct ensembles in Florida and Louisiana. Detouring from performance, Richard became a manager of orchestras, including the Florida Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra (now the Florida Orchestra), the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. Prior to those groups he was the first salaried manager of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra. Leaving the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Richard received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, to study in one of the first arts management programs in the country. As part of that program he became a manager, as an intern, with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, where he later returned as acting manager prior to moving to Wichita. Richard left the non-profit arts management sector in 1991 when he returned to Melbourne, where he joined the Community Band of Brevard, and rejoined the Melbourne Municipal Band, where he had been a member in 1968-69 and again in 1974-1975. As well as conducting both the Central Florida Winds and the Central Florida Chamber Winds, Richard is an experienced Financial Advisor at Edward Jones.
