Ron Vogelsong received his B.A. in Music Performance on Bass Trombone
from the University of South Florida in 1978. He then went on to get a
BSEE, MSEE, and eventually a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering there in
1985. He continued at USF for five years as a professor of EE before
moving to Palm Bay and working for Harris Semiconductor / Intersil. For
the last few years he's been working for Cadence Design Systems, an
Electrical Design Automation software company.
On the lighter side, Ron spent 15 years playing Bass Trombone for all
manner of shows on Florida's west coast, including performing for eight
years with a 20 piece big band. Since moving to Palm Bay, Ron performs
regularly with the Oh Golly Dixieland Band, as well as performing with
and arranging for various ensembles at Melbourne First Baptist Church,
including the church orchestra, praise team, brass ensembles, gospel
quartet, and several handbell choirs. Ron's pieces for handbells are
regularly published in LifeWay's Handbells magazine.
Ron lives in Palm Bay with his wife Jean and children, Daniel and Julie.
His children are accomplished musicians as well -- Daniel attends the
University of South Florida in Tampa, studying bassoon, and Julie is a
pianist and violinist (concertmaster of Palm Bay High's orchestra).
